7 reasons why Lana Del Rey is (one of) the sexiest female solo artists around
Lana Del Rey, the stage name of Elizabeth Grant, is one of the most talked about female singers at the moment. Her debut album, Born to Die, was one of the most eagerly awaited events within the music industry in 2011.
Her popularity soared in the UK even more after winning the International Breakthrough Act at the 2012 BRITs as well as a string of great performances such as on Jools Holland.
Instantly recognisable through her looks (think 60’s glamour girl) as well as deep husky voice. We look at why we like her so much.
1. She’s stylish and looks great
Let’s get the most obvious thing out of the way first. She’s pretty, blonde (or red haired? or brown? it’s actually quite hard to tell), slim and above all stylish in that instantly recognisable “gangster Nancy Sinatra” 60’s glamour look that she’s invented for herself.
A lot has been said though about her looks and some criticism levelled at the possibility that she’s had collagen implants or plastic surgery on those amazingly pouty lips. Certainly before and after shots of her reinvention from Lizzy Grant to Lana Del Rey show a very different woman. Something that she denies strongly. We don’t care though – she’s looks gorgeous and every inch the sultry, seductive songstress that she is. See more photos of the sexy Lana Del Rey.
2. She’s talented
We’re lucky enough to be blessed with many talented female singers and songwriters at the moment. Adele, Duffy, and Amy Winehouse (when she was around) to name but a few. Lana obviously writes good songs (and very much by herself) but she’s also created her own videos. She did get sued for copyright infringement, but that’s only a minor blip on the road to stardom, and it also makes us admire her even more. Lana also wrote most of her songs in the UK (apparently), which gets a big thumbs up too. More tea to help the writer’s block dear?
3. She sounds demure
On her Born to Die album, which the BBC web site describes as “a sweeping epic of doomed love affairs and bruised glamour” and “the lost soundtrack to a film noir” she sounds fantastic.
The BBC continues, “Del Rey’s vocals have a cinematic quality, too. One minute, she’s a breathy femme fatale; the next, a languorous, sultry diva: Marilyn Monroe and Marlene Dietrich competing for control of the microphone.” Yes, quite.
4. She reinvented herself
After beginning her singing career under the decidedly plain name of Lizzy Grant, she underwent a transformation, and created her new persona ‘Lana Del Rey’ before hitting the big time. This is nothing new. The music world is littered with creators of successful stage personas: Adam and the Ants, Madonna, Iggy Pop and our favourite, David Bowie.
5. She’s from New York
She was born in NY city but grew up in Lake Placid (where the horror film with the giant croc was based..possibly). This cultural city and hub is much more cosmopolitan, stylish and way way cooler than hailing from somewhere like Hull, Swindon or Colchester.
6. She’s a bad girl
Every man loves a bad girl. It means that she would almost certainly be wild in bed, which lets face it is everyman’s dream girl. See what you think of the below. Cheeky.
7. She’s single!?
We actually have no idea about this one really, and it also doesn’t matter too as we’re never going to get the chance to try and chat up a top music star. We’ll just continue admiring her from afar. Much like music stars are supposed to be treated (that means stay away you crazy stalker, she’s ours!).
